Kevin was a senior engineer who worked for Network Rail and the rail industry for over 32 years. He worked within signaling infrastructure projects on Central route including West Midlands resignalling and Leamington corridor resignalling before moving to the chief engineering team based in Milton Keynes where he worked on the drafting and advising on level crossing engineering principles.
Kevin had motor neuron disease, a progressive disease that affects the brain and nerves, which impacted his ability to work. Despite the disease, he carried on working with the aid of a speech assistance device to help in meetings.
Outside of Network Rail, Kevin also helped Therapy Box, a speech assistance device manufacturer, to improve their keyboard settings and software to better the lives of future users.
He continued to contribute at work and to Therapy Box until his health prevented him from doing so and sadly, Kevin passed away earlier this year on 4 October as a result of the disease.
"He will be sadly missed"
Mick Brook, project operations interface specialist, who worked with Kevin for a number of years, said "I can only say it was a pleasure working with such a knowledgeable, dedicated and approachable person, who always delivered what was required.
"He will be sadly missed by all who worked or knew him, and I'm certain he would appreciate the naming of a crossing after him"
The renaming of a level crossing was chosen to commemorate Kevin because of his significant contributions and dedication to the national level crossing team.
Drakes Boughton level crossing officially changed names to Boyd's crossing on Tuesday 24 November. New information signs have been placed at the level crossing, and all documentation referencing the level crossing has been updated to reflect the new name.
